He discovers that he has been sent to a unit composed of Nisei (an American whose parents were immigrants from Japan). He is upset to find he is expected to fight alongside people whom he sees as Japanese, rather than Americans. He runs a very strict platoon, expecting strict adherence to army regulations, and his unit is comprised of men who have come mostly from internment camps. Through fighting in Italy and France, Grayson eventually comes to respect the Nisei, and his bigotry fades. As he has misjudged the Nisei, they have misjudged Grayson. The Nisei rescue the "Lost Battalion", after the 36th is surrounded by the German army. Upon their return home, the Nisei are awarded the eighth Presidential Unit Citation for their bravery in battle. A terrific WWII film full of action, courage and overcoming bigotry and prejudice. A great treasure of a film! (90 minutes - 1951 - Black & White - 4:3)
