About the Author
Ingri Mortenson d'Aulaire (1904-1980) and Edgar Parin d'Aulaire (1898-1986) met at art school in Munich in 1921. The couple married in Norway in 1925 and moved to America in the late 1920s. Encouraged to pursue children's literature by the head librarian in the juvenile department at the New York Public Library, the d'Aulaires published their first children's book in 1931. The d'Aulaires worked as a team on both art and text throughout their joint career. Together they published more than two dozen children's books, many of them based around folklore and myth.
