Way of the Dodo: Far-Fetched Island: Book 1 -- Eric Warczinsky, Paperback
Set sail to a deserted island where every animal thought to be extinct now lives!
In Book 1 of Far-Fetched Island, Dusty the dodo bird finds himself in a rather high spot. Driven by the need to fit in with the other birds, Dusty tries his luck at flying with a contraption he cleverly built. When the flight attempt gets snagged in a tree, Dusty receives a helping wing in the form of a Giant Teratorn, who educates Dusty about his dodo ancestors who were the builders and fixers for the island. Charmed by this discovery, Dusty wishes to learn more about the dodos who walked before him, if only he could free himself from the darn tree. With his enormous wingspan overshadowing the dodo, the Teratorn answers the call by giving Dusty the flight of his life!
Beautifully illustrated in 32 pages, this book introduces two extinct birds as they start an unlikely friendship. Exploring themes of stereotyping, bullying, and determination, this story sets a dodo bird out to discover the island's wonderful animals by leaving a home that cannot contain his high-flying ambition.
