The son of a vaudeville entertainer, Dion DiMucci's debut 45, "The Chosen Few", was a local hit backed by the maudlin Timberelanes, prompting him to form the more authentic Belmonts with friends from his Bronx neighborhood. Numerous hits followed, including "A Teenager In Love" and "Where Or When", and despite his heroin addiction, solo work was even bigger, the million-seller, "Runaround Sue", topping the US pop charts in late 1961, followed by signature tune "The Wanderer". The resultant Runaround Sue LP is quintessential Dion, his strong tenor tackling a range of cover tunes, as well as inspired originals like "Lonely World", capturing the man at his confident best, approaching his peak period of stardom.
